Lapierre Educational Centre

Educational Program
in LaSalle

Our educational program is tailored to each age group. It is based on active learning and educational intervention with children. It aims for the global and harmonious development of the child across 5 dimensions: physical, motor, cognitive, language, and socio-emotional.

It particularly promotes the development of social skills that prepare children for school: confidence, self-esteem, respect for others, motivation, curiosity, and conflict resolution.

The 5 developmental spheres
1

Physical & Motor Development

This area covers the acquisition of movement, control, and coordination of the whole body (gross motor skills: walking, running, jumping…) or specific body parts (fine motor skills: turning pages, coloring, cutting…).

To help the child progress, the educator:
  • Organizes physical activities based on the child's developmental level:
    • Gross motor skills: crawling on a safe surface, encouraging toddlers to walk with small steps; for older children: treasure hunt, balancing on one foot, Simon Says…
    • Fine motor skills: stacking blocks, manipulative toys; for older children: play dough, cutting, painting…
  • Encourages children to do things on their own: putting on their coat, buttoning it, zipping it up (fine motor skills and independence).
2

Cognitive Development

This area covers all the abilities and knowledge that help children organize their thinking, reason, and increasingly understand the world around them.

To help children progress, the educator:
  • Encourages curiosity by watching documentaries related to the week's theme and asking questions afterward.
  • Helps children learn using their cognitive skills: classification, memory games, riddles, spatial concepts…
  • Organizes creative activities and provides varied materials: paint, crayons, glue, glitter, stickers, papers of different textures…
  • Gives children the opportunity to tell stories from their imagination.
3

Language Development

Language is the act of communicating and interacting with others — sharing thoughts, expressing emotions verbally, and making connections.

To develop this area, the educator:
  • Talks often with children and listens attentively to help them develop their language skills.
  • Creates opportunities for children to express themselves and listen (circle time, sharing discussions).
  • Sings, tells stories, and asks open-ended questions to give children the freedom to express themselves.
  • Encourages children to make polite requests (please, thank you, excuse me…).
  • Praises children when they express their emotions verbally.
    • Examples: handwashing song, naming objects in a photo, "repeat after me" game, "make up a story"…
4

Emotional Development

This area reflects the child's relationship with their experiences and life events. It is essential to allow children to learn about themselves, express their feelings, and build confidence and independence in order to interact peacefully.

The educator's role is:
  • To help children feel good about who they are and to respect others.
  • To organize group workshops to help children get to know one another.
  • To help children express both negative and positive emotions verbally.
  • To use tools to reinforce positive behavior (motivation chart).
  • To encourage children verbally: "Great job, excellent, well said, well done."
  • To build children's self-esteem by giving them responsibilities and expressing appreciation.
5

Social & Moral Development

A child's social development refers to their ability to live in groups and in society while respecting certain rules. By attending daycare, children develop this dimension, as the childcare setting is a small society for them. Symbolic play has a significant influence on this learning.

To further stimulate children, the educator:
  • Creates an environment where children learn to work independently, share, and cooperate in small groups (individual and collective crafts, moving in pairs, carrying an object together…).
  • Encourages children to be positive and to take pride in the results of their efforts.
  • Helps children accept and respect others as well as others' belongings.
  • Helps children feel like members of a family, a community, and society (e.g., neighborhood walks, respecting traffic lights…).
  • Teaches children to respect others' choices and to speak quietly so as not to disturb.
  • Gives children choices and helps them accept the consequences of their decisions.
  • Creates opportunities for children to participate in planning and share their point of view.
  • Praises and motivates children when they behave appropriately or offer help to their peers.
