This area covers the acquisition of movement, control, and coordination of the whole body (gross motor skills: walking, running, jumping…) or specific body parts (fine motor skills: turning pages, coloring, cutting…).
To help the child progress, the educator:
- Organizes physical activities based on the child's developmental level:
- Gross motor skills: crawling on a safe surface, encouraging toddlers to walk with small steps; for older children: treasure hunt, balancing on one foot, Simon Says…
- Fine motor skills: stacking blocks, manipulative toys; for older children: play dough, cutting, painting…
- Encourages children to do things on their own: putting on their coat, buttoning it, zipping it up (fine motor skills and independence).
